How it works

What’s in the test

Round 1

Images

Ten pairs. Real photos against diffusion-model copies of the same scene: plastic light, waxy surfaces, too much of everything.

Round 2

Writing

Ten pairs. Passages from public reports and papers against a model writing about the same thing.

Round 3

Audio

Four pairs. Volunteers reading aloud against a synthetic voice reading the same kind of text.

Screens

Six pairs. Real websites against images of websites a model dreamed up.

What kind of questions are they?

Pairs of photos, paragraphs, voice clips, and web pages. One in each pair was generated. You pick which. Play the clips with sound on.

Can I take it on my phone?

Yes. It works on a phone or a computer.

What’s the difference between Basic and Advanced?

Basic uses the fakes most people meet online: glossy images, chatty prose, flat synthetic voices. Advanced uses current photoreal models and careful writing, so the tells are small. Both are free to take.

Where do the real ones come from?

Photos from Pixabay, passages from public-domain reports (NTSB, CDC, USGS, NASA, NOAA) and classic papers, voices from LibriVox volunteers, and screenshots of real public websites. The generated halves were made by us with an image model, a language model, and ElevenLabs, each prompted to copy its real twin. Every source is credited in the full review.
